Arsenal followers react to Joe Willock’s show for Newcastle United

A selection of Arsenal fans on Twitter were impressed by Joe Willock’s performance in Newcastle United’s impressive 4-2 Premier League win at Leicester City on Friday.

The loaned midfielder has been in good shape for the Magpies and recently scored late bench goals against Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Liverpool to secure four extra points.

He was started by manager Steve Bruce last night and continued his excellent streak by scoring the first goal in the 22nd minute.

Willock grabbed possession of defender Caglar Soyuncu and advanced into the box before shooting over the goal with his left foot from a tight angle.

The 21-year-old only came to the Magpies on loan during the winter transfer window, but made a big impression with five goals from eleven league games.

His contributions have helped the club stay out of the relegation battle and they are on the verge of confirming their top status for the next season.

A number of Gunners fans have been impressed with Willock’s recent appearances. Here are some reactions after scoring a league game for the fourth straight year.

Twitter reactions:

Amazing that Willock was loaned to Newcastle in January and has scored more league goals than our entire midfield this season.

Willock scores game after game for Newcastle as we are stuck with 33-year-old Willian with 0 goals in 36 games. 😭😭😭

Sportslens view – Joe Willock’s future at Arsenal:

Willock was impressive for the Gunners in the Europa League group stage this season, recording three goals and three assists from five games.

Due to his form, he gave up a few league starts in November, but could not exert much influence in these games.

Emile Smith Rowe’s breakthrough followed, and the Gunners were happy to borrow Willock for some league experience.

Willock certainly made the best use of the temporary assignment, and his progress will have caught Gunner’s boss, Mikel Arteta.

Martin Odegaard has played as a low-lying playmaker for the Gunners but his Real Madrid loan spell ends this month.

The club already have a high profile replacement in their sights and Real Betis’ Nabil Fekir has been identified as a potential target to replace the Norwegian.

Willock can’t be sure he’ll start regularly next season but could quickly improve the pecking order if he has a similar impact on the League of Gunners.
