Arsenal questioned over Emiliano Martinez sale
Arsenal suffered another dire result last night when they lost 1-0 to Burnley at home. Their former goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was above them in the Premier League table with his new club Aston Villa.
Martinez was in great shape towards the end of last season and has played well for the injured Bernd Leno in some big games. Arsenal beat Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals and Chelsea in the final.
The Argentine is also impressing this season in Villa. Garth Crooks named him on his newest Premier League team of the week on BBC Sport.
According to Crooks, Martinez was key to Villa’s most recent result – a 1-0 away win over Wolves on Saturday, and he added that Arsenal may now regret letting him go this summer.
He said: “Daniel Podence’s save with Emiliano Martinez in full swing was impressive, but it was Leander Dendoncker’s instinctive stop that again made me question whether Arsenal were wise to let this goalkeeper go.

“Martinez looked impressive when he stood in for the injured Bernd Leno before leaving the capital. However, since arriving at Villa Park, the Argentine goalkeeper has been superb and a valuable addition to a young team. “
Arsenal are likely having bigger problems than the goalkeeper at the moment, but there could be an argument that Martinez would have been better than Leno.
In addition to being a good player, Martinez was a popular character in the locker room and a great personality who showed up when his club needed him most.
