Barcelona goal near finalising a cope with the Blaugranas

After months of negotiations, Eric Garcia finally seems to be back Barcelona. The parties reportedly reached an agreement after mutually discussing the terms.

Eric has been linked with a return to the Catalan club for quite some time. And the soap opera that surrounded his transfer got a bit regular. Fortunately, everything is almost over.

According to various reports in Spain, the player’s representatives have agreed on terms with Barca. However, official declarations have yet to be made.

Garcia’s contract with Manchester city expires this summer. But Barcelona have been chasing the player since last August. The big urge to sign Garcia came after Bayern exposed the squad’s defensive incompetence in the Champions League. The disastrous 8-2 defeat pushed the club to look for highly qualified defenders. And the 20-year-old’s name came first.

The Catalans seemed ready to secure his services. But Manchester City refused to let him go for a reduced fee. They reportedly asked for a £ 20 million transfer for the Spaniard.

Such a fee seemed impractical for a player who had only 1 year left on their contract. This delayed the move until the winter transfer window, when Barca made a second attempt to overthrow him. Again, the Premier League club asked for £ 5m for the player. Obviously unable to pay such an amount, the presidential candidates decided to sign it for free.

Barcelona closes Garcia deal:

With the player having clear intentions to play for Barca, it seemed like only a matter of time. However, complications arose when President Joan Laporta decided to renegotiate his terms.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Laporta had offered Garcia half of his original salary. And that caused the deal to stall temporarily.

But now, it seems, all that remains are the final little details of the deal. Garcia has agreed to sacrifice half the salary that Bartomeu had previously offered him.

The Spaniard only played seven games in all competitions for the Cityzens in the 2020-21 season. However, this is not a reason to undermine its worth or capabilities. Manager Pep Guardiola has repeatedly expressed his admiration for the young gun.

Last week, after winning the Carabao Cup Final, Pep praised the player again. He said that he would like to have 15 Eric Garcias on his team. Speaking to the journalists, Guardiola said: “He (Garcia) will work together in an incredible team. I think he’s not on the bench or on the team with Eric, like most of the time, because he’s going to Barcelona. Hopefully.”

Eric is already well used to the club. He is a product of the Barcelona youth system before moving to England in 2017. Despite his tender age of 20, the Spanish international has already played 7 caps for his national team. And the fans certainly expect a lot from him. For now, there are hints of anticipation around the world as the boy prepares to return to his youth club.
