Brandon Williams eager on becoming a member of Newcastle United on mortgage
Manchester United defender Brandon Williams is keen to get a loan from Newcastle United for the remainder of the season, claims Chronicle Live.
The Red Devils graduate made his breakthrough last season after suffering a thigh injury to left-back Luke Shaw and ended the season with 36 appearances in all competitions.
However, following the arrival of Alex Telles, he was struggling for regular time that season and was limited to just five league games of just six minutes.
As a result, he’s been linked to a possible loan outflow this month and the Magpies are among the leading candidates for landing his services.
Magpies boss Steve Bruce has had positive conversations with United’s assistant Michael Carrick, and it is now reported that Williams is open to loan.
Southampton were the first club to approach the defender earlier this month but they were only willing to offer him a replacement role.
Everton has also been credited with an interest, but Williams appears keen to move to the Magpies where he has a chance to secure himself regular first-team football.
Williams is a right-back by trade but has played largely on the left side of the backline since making his Red Devils debut last season.
The 20-year-old is also capable of performing in the full-back positions and that fits perfectly with the Magpies who prefer to play with a three-man central defense.
The Magpies have two loan points at their disposal, and in addition to Williams they are also looking into a temporary contract for former Everton lender Djibril Sidibe.
The Frenchman has only played six games since returning to AS Monaco and will be able to borrow the Principality’s outfit over the next few weeks.
