Chelsea revive curiosity in West Ham United’s Declan Rice
According to The Telegraph, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is a fan of West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice and will recommend him to director Marina Granovskaia ahead of the summer transfer window.
Former blues boss Frank Lampard wanted the 22-year-old, and his successor now wants to revive the club’s interest in the Hammers star.
The London Stadium team now values Rice at around £ 90m, with Manchester City and Manchester United also keen to snag him.
However, Chelsea would not meet their asking price and could try to use £ 40million Tammy Abraham as a Makeweight.
West Ham manager David Moyes wants the England striker but has admitted that his side cannot afford the blues demands.
Chelsea are also looking to part ways with Ross Barkley – another player the Hammers boss admires – and both teams could do business with a player-plus-money deal this summer.
East Londoners don’t want to lose any of their best players, however, and hope that the seal qualification for next season’s Europa League will convince them to stay.
Tuchel hopes the lure of Champions League football and the chance to regularly compete for silver would tempt Rice to return to west London.
A win against Aston Villa on Sunday guarantees them a place in next season’s European elite competition. If they secure victory in the Champions League final against Manchester City next Saturday, they will also qualify for the competition in case they miss a top 4 result.
In other news, West Ham reportedly wants a striker who has won the World Cup this summer.
