Fonte not shocked Neves is being linked with Arsenal transfer
Jose Fonte is “not surprised” that Ruben Neves is linked to Arsenal move.
The Gunners have identified the Wolves midfielder as a replacement for Granit Xhaka, who will join Roma for £ 20m as Mikel Arteta tries to add some quality to his squad in the transfer window
The Telegraph claims Arsenal are preparing to bid for Neves, with Wolves demanding a minimum fee of £ 40million for the 24-year-old who has played 176 games since joining Wolves for £ 15.8million from Porto.
Neves will play alongside Fonte at Euro 2020 and the defender of Portugal and Lille was full of praise for his teammate, he told White and Jordan on talkSPORT: “Ruben is a great young player. We must not forget that he is still a young player.
“He has done very well since coming to England. I can’t say I’m surprised [about the links to Arsenal] because of the quality it has and its pass range is unmatched.
“He can score goals from outside the box. He is very smart. I am not surprised that there is interest in him. “
There is no doubt that Neves has the quality to be a massive player in the Emirates if the Gunners can get a transfer deal and are not too tight on that budget.
They have to spend a lot to get quality and £ 40m is not a lot of money for a player who has already proven himself in the Premier League and would be a brilliant signing for the club.
The Gunners would be foolish to miss the man
