Former Barca president Laporta hangs big poster close to rivals
Former Barcelona president Juan Laporta has paid to have a giant banner placed near arch-rival Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
Laporta, who is standing for election to be president of the club again, placed the poster strategically far away from Barcelona’s arch-rivals.
“Excited to see you again,” was the caption on the huge picture with a picture of his face.
Laporta announced late last month that he would be a candidate for the Barcelona presidency following the resignation of Josep Maria Bartomeu in October.
From 2003 to 2010 he was president of the club. During this period, the Catalans dominated the field.
The club won the Champions League in 2006 and 2009 under his supervision and won La Liga in 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2010.
Laporta was also responsible for hiring Pep Guardiola as coach in the summer of 2008, which ended in a historic triple in his first responsible season.
The club’s new president is scheduled to be appointed early next year. The elections will take place in January.
