Charlie’s role model is McTominay
Charlie Savage took to Twitter to announce that he has signed his first professional contract for Manchester United. He thanked his family and friends and said the hard work continues.
The youngster also showed he was inspired to be like current United midfielder Scott McTominay. He also hoped he could follow in the footsteps of Red Devils Academy graduate McTominay. He said:
“The main inspiration for me is Scott – he’s the best with us. He’s coming over to talk to us. He had a hard time in the youth team. Scott didn’t play many games, but he just kept going and proving that it’s not always the great players who make the first team.
Sometimes it’s the players who might have had a back seat, but they keep pushing and pushing. Scott, Marcus Rashford and also Brandon Wiliiams inspire us all to improve and move forward. ”

United’s incredible youth setup suits Savage
Charlie Savage is just one of the many talented players in the United Academy. The club’s youth setup is full of emerging talent. And the Red Devils have a tradition of bringing these talented players to the first team.
Class 92 is a prime example. They dominated world football for years and won numerous trophies. The team produced some of the best players in the Premier League. They currently have greats like Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Den Henderson and Scott McTominay, Axel Tuanzebe, all of whom play for the first team to graduate from the academy. It’s United’s most expensive signature, but even Paul Pogba made it through the academy.
In December 2020, when United played against Everton, it was the 4,000th consecutive senior game that had at least one youth graduate on the United squad on match day. The series began back in 1937. The club’s commitment to the development of young players is a central part of the club’s identity.
So Charlie Savage has a great chance of making it to the first team, which his dad couldn’t.
