Hyderabad FC 1-2 FC Goa: Report, Rankings & Response because the Gaurs Snatch One other Late Victory

The last Indian Super League game in 2020 was quite important as a young Hyderabad FC faced a rather disappointing FC Goa side. The two teams finished 8th and 6th in the standings, respectively, and both wanted to improve their current form. The Nizams saw their unbeaten start two games ago and failed to bounce back last time, while the Gaurs had lost two of their last three clashes.

It was supposed to be a very fascinating fight, and here’s what we made of it:

The first half wasn’t the most exciting, as neither side had real scoring opportunities until Brandon Fernandes put a cross on Igor Angulo in the 43rd minute, whose header went just over the top corner.

Hyderabad FC’s first opportunity came in the 50th minute when Akash Mishra danced his way over the left flank and let it fly off the edge of the box. However, he cut over the ball with his right foot and his shot went wide. Four minutes later, Halicharan Narzary pushed João Victor through on the right, but the Brazilian midfielder failed to beat Mohammad Nawaz with his effort.

The Nizams finally broke the impasse in the 58th minute when Ashish Rai hung a cross towards Aridane, who managed to get enough header to hit the goalkeeper despite having to take a few steps back to hit the ball .

Four minutes later, the Spanish striker nearly doubled his lead when he let a powerful drive fly out of range and forced Mohammad Nawaz to tip him onto the top crossbar.

Goa eventually drew level in the 87th minute when Ishan Pandita Edu Bedia’s free-kick hit the top corner of the net with his first touch after coming on as a substitute.

Just what we wanted is Ishaan Pandita on the score sheet…… 🔥🔥🔥🔥 #ForcaGoa

Three minutes later, Mohammed Yasir cut from right to inside and shot from the edge of the box, which only went over the crossbar.

However, it was Goa FC who scored yet another added-time winner through Igor Angulo who burst left, checked the defender and hit the goalkeeper all the way to the post with his low finish.

That was Hyderabad’s last chance to save a point. Goa won 2-1.

Another unrewarded achievement

After two defeats that marked the end of their unbeaten start, Hyderabad FC faced a real test tonight, not only in terms of quality but also in terms of character.

What they wanted was pretty clear in the first half when they had to settle for less possession and did so in determined defensive form. The Nizams pressed coherently, denying Goa FC the ball in their own half at any time, thus preventing them from carrying out substantial attacks. They made it clear that they were much happier not to lose this match instead of giving everything to win.

They grew into the game in the second half, creating a number of chances early on and eventually capitalizing on Aridane’s strong header. The test was not over there, however, as they then had to hold the lead. Unfortunately, they failed that test, and it was a late offset that again proved their undoing. Then the nizams admitted again when their defenses went completely out of shape.

Two good teams playing against each other in an intense match made a great way to end the year, but heartbroken for the young HFC team. That’s exactly how I felt when New Zealand lost the CWC last year. Sport is sometimes cruel. The winner gets it all!

This performance by Hyderabad FC certainly deserved at least one point, but some late rounds meant they had to leave again disappointed.

Once again ride their luck

The FC Goa season has so far been characterized by discrepancies, which are reflected very well in the results: DLDWWLLWW

It’s almost like they have two sides – one of them is full of ruthless killers like the ones who showed up against Kerala Blasters, while the other, who showed up tonight, simply doesn’t create anything. Juan Ferrando has used the same players in his lineups so it’s difficult to explain why Goa can be so unpredictable.

It’s hard to rationalize that randomness, but if there was a reason tonight it was because the Gaurs just weren’t playing through the Hyderabad FC press. This isn’t the first time this has happened – the game against ATK Mohun Bagan was another example of Juan Ferrando’s possession being neutralized by intense squeezing.

The Gaurs didn’t give up, however, and after leveling off a set piece, Igor Angulo showed up in two games with his second piece of stoppage time to help his team run away on all three points.
