Jose Mourinho concerned about bringing David De Gea to Roma
New AS Roma Chef Jose Mourinho wants to bring Manchester United Goalkeeper David De Gea with him to Italy. The Portuguese was named the new head coach of the Serie A club earlier this week and will take over management of the club from next season.
De Gea was in fantastic form against Jose’s new club last night and produced a number of outstanding saves. Despite a 3-2 defeat in Rome, United won the tie 8-5 and thus booked their place in the Europa League final.
Some of the saves De Gea scored were world class, including one from up close and personal with Roma defender Gianluca Mancini. In total, the Spaniard made 10 parades. His impressive performance earned him a WhoScored 8.3 despite scoring three goals. In all fairness, if De Gea hadn’t put in such a feat, Roma would probably have made it to the final. He deservedly won the man of the game for his incredible performance.
That performance was a reminder of the 30-year-old shot stopper’s own qualities and came at the right time when his former boss Jose was dying to sign him.
De Gea was MOTM against Roma in the second leg.
Roma’s interest in De Gea:
After Jose was named the new Roma manager, rumors began to link him to his former United players. But his interest in taking De Gea with him to Rome is quite great. And according to TodoFichajes, the 58-year-old coach is keen to sign De Gea this summer.
De Gea enjoyed some of his prime years at United under Jose. His incredible performance against Arsenal in December 2017 in which he made one Premier League A record 14 saves came when Jose United was manager. He won the Europa League and League Cup under Jose before the Portuguese left the club in 2018.
As for the Roma, their goalkeeping situation is not good. First choice goalkeeper Pau Lopez was injured in the first leg at Old Trafford against United. Further scans revealed that his shoulder slipped, which will keep him away for an extended period of time.
His successor, Mirante, is 37 and has had his best days. No wonder Jose is looking to upgrade in this position before next season. And De Gea is its main target.

Goalkeeping dilemma for United:
De Gea started the current season as United’s preferred goalkeeper, despite Dean Henderson arriving at Sheffield United on loan. Henderson only started the cup competitions and Europa League games.
But De Gea lost his first place and has not been in the league since February. And last month there were rumors that a lot of United players want Henderson to be the club’s goalkeeper of choice.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has to sell one of the two goalkeepers as Henderson and De Gea together make £ 500,000 a week. With the Englishman signing a new deal at the beginning of the season, De Gea is likely to leave.
A £ 25m fee would be enough to convince United to sell De Gea. However, it remains to be seen whether Roma De Geas can afford massive wages or whether the player will take a pay cut to switch to his former coach.
