Man United to push for Declan Rice deal if West Ham signal Lingard

Last summer, questions were raised if Chelsea would finally find a way to sign West Ham’s Declan Rice, but that interest eventually waned when Frank Lampard was fired.

There have been occasional ties to Man United, but there has never been anything specific, and there has never been a situation where Rice tried to force his way out.

United needs to bring decent quality to midfield behind Bruno Fernandes and Rice would certainly add that, so the inevitable rumors of a possible swap deal have come to light:

Lingard has been sensational since joining the Hammers on loan in January and it looks like he’s thriving because he’s a key member of the team. So it makes little sense for him to return to the Old Trafford bench.

There’s no chance this could be a direct swap so Man United would have to pay a sizable fee and Lingard permanently to West Ham, but it would be a good move for the midfielder at this point in his career.

West Ham has had an incredible season, but history tells us they are likely to drop back towards midfield next year, although you can argue that if Rice stands still, it may not happen.

It’s been a strange season with Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool struggling, but imagine they’ll get stronger next season. So Rice could decide this is the right time to move to a bigger club.

Moving to Old Trafford would give him a regular chance in Champions League football but it is also reported that Lingard hasn’t made up his mind either, so this is a situation to watch over the summer.
