Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Chelsea vs Manchester Metropolis

BBC football expert Mark Lawrenson has given his prediction for Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final showdown between Chelsea and Manchester City at Wembley.

Both teams booked their places in the semi-finals of the Champions League in the middle of the week after they had won against Porto and Borussia Dortmund overall.

They will face each other in the final four of the FA Cup tomorrow and Lawrenson predicted the possible outcome of the competition.

The Cityzens are favorites for the tie and Lawrenson helped them to get to the top with a 2-0 win as they are likely to create more scoring opportunities.

He told BBC Sport: “Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel will treat this tie in the same way as it would at a meeting in Europe. First and foremost, he will make sure his team is not open and then he will try to hit City break. “

“I can’t see that Tuchel is just starting on Saturday – let’s put it that way. It’s not in his DNA. But I don’t think his game plan will work. The city will get so much from the ball that it creates opportunities.

“If Pep Guardiola’s side scores the first goal, it could be a curtain for Chelsea. I wouldn’t say the same is true if Chelsea scores first.

“City had to work hard to get past Everton on lap six, but they found a way through in the end. This will be a similar story. “

Sportslens view:

The Blues have improved on the defensive side of their game since Tuchel’s appointment, but there has been some criticism of their offensive performances.

A prime example was the European duel against Porto during the week, in which they could not find the end of the net and lost 1-0 after a late stunner by Mehdi Taremi.

You can’t afford to miss scoring chances against the Cityzens. Pep Guardiola’s side were also bad last weekend against Leeds United, where they lost 2-1.

However, they made up for it with a 2-1 win over Dortmund. You will likely have more possession tomorrow and aim for an early breakthrough.

The Cityzens are still alive in all four competitions and have a chance to win an unprecedented quadruple at the end of the campaign.
