Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Manchester Metropolis vs Everton
The BBC football expert Mark Lawrenson has given his forecast for the clash of the Premier League between Manchester City and Everton on the final day of the game.
The Cityzens secured their third league title in four seasons earlier this month but their form has recently been disappointing with two losses in their last three games.
They will pick up the trophy on Sunday in the presence of 10,000 fans and manager Pep Guardiola wants his team to end the campaign with a winning mark.
In the meantime, the Toffees have to score at least one point against the Cityzens tomorrow to give themselves the chance to secure a European place.
They are currently in seventh place by Tottenham Hotspur, who have a superior goal difference, while Arsenal are one point behind them.
Your prospects for European football depend on Spurs dropping points. You face a potentially winning situation at the Etihad Stadium tomorrow.
Lawrenson backed the Cityzens with a 3-0 win, with manager Pep Guardiola likely to play his strongest team ahead of the Champions League final next week.
He told BBC Sport: “This is City’s last game before the Champions League final and I think Pep Guardiola will have to play the team he will use in this game.”
“Pep has to keep his side going and City has to forget that some of their players could get injured.
“Even a win will probably not be enough to secure a place in the Europa League for Everton, but they have a chance of seventh place if they get a positive result. But I don’t see it.
“The Toffees have been doing a lot better all season, but it’s a big challenge for them to go to Etihad and get something.”
The Toffees have been exceptional in their travels this season, collecting 37 points. They have only suffered three defeats in their 18 games.
It’s a big contrast to her home run. They have only collected 22 points in their 19 games, which is what they cost in their advance for European football.
Despite the good away record, they have a tough job against the Cityzens, whom they have defeated in all competitions in the last seven matches.
Guardiola is keen to see his team return to winning ways ahead of the Champions League final against Chelsea on May 29 in Lisbon.
Sergio Aguero will be making his final Premier League appearance for the club and will end his ten-year stint this summer.
