Maurizio Sarri desires to raid former membership Chelsea for midfielder
Recently, Lazio’s official Twitter page hinted at former ones Chelsea Trainer Maurizio Sarri is her next trainer. The Italian’s last job was at Juventus, where he was fired just one season later, despite winning Serie A.
Now he’s back in the dugout and Sarri is keen to add a former player to his Lazio ranks. He did something when he came to Chelsea from Naples. He asked the Blues to sign Jorginho from Napoli the summer he arrived.
It looks like he’s doing something similar too. According to Sky Sports Italia, Sarri plans to sign Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek this summer. He communicated this to the club owner Claudio Lotito.
Why does Sarri want Loftus-Cheek?
The Englishman had his best season at Chelsea under Maurizio Sarri. In the 2018/19 season Loftus-Cheek scored 10 goals and 5 assists in 40 appearances. Together they also won the Europa League.
Not only this Sarri has a non-comprehensive game system. The Italian’s team is often set up familiar and leaves little room for flexibility. At Stamford Bridge, Loftus Cheek played the role of a number 8.
When he comes to Lazio it will be easier for him to settle down and play the role of number 8. He has already played under Sarri there and has also outdone himself. For these reasons, Sarri wants the Englishman.
Loftus-Cheek’s current situation at Chelsea:
The 24-year-old started in the first game of the season but was loaned to Fulham for the remainder of the season. At that time, Frank Lampard was running the club. However, he was released mid-season.
It is currently unclear what plans Thomas Tuchel has with the midfielder. It is likely that he will judge him this summer before making a final decision about his future at the club.
Possible Chelsea decision:
It’s unlikely the Blues will consider selling it permanently. It must be remembered that it was an Achilles injury that hampered his progress in the club. Before that he was a young player with a lot of potential.
In the 2018/19 season, he also managed to push Ross Barkley off the team, although he was more experienced than him. It is likely that Chelsea will loan him out or sell him with a buyback clause.
He’s still only 25 years old and has time to get back to his best. The Blues wouldn’t want to repeat a Mo Salah or De Bryune-type decision.
Chelsea fans wouldn’t want academy talent like Loftus-Cheek to leave the club. However, they understand that a move to Lazio could potentially revitalize his career. While Lazio fans might get a treat if Sarri can get the most out of the Englishman.
