Nuno Tavares on Mikel Arteta message forward of Arsenal debut
After a brilliant debut that included a wonderful goal, Nuno Tavares spoke about the advice Mikel Arteta had given before making his first appearance for the club, as announced on the Arsenal website.
The 21-year-old insisted that Arteta encouraged him to just “play freely, not be afraid” and reiterated that Tavares just had to focus on his own “job” and “that’s it”.
Tavares excelled as a left-back before being replaced by regular Kieran Tierney at halftime. The Portuguese U21 international shot repeatedly over the flank and was rewarded with his goal.
Arsenal made Tavares their first sign of the summer last week by signing a € 8m (£ 6.8m) deal with Benfica for the promising left-back, according to the Guardian.

Tavares was recruited to compete with Tierney, who was exceptional for the Gunners but is unfortunately prone to injury and has suffered regular setbacks since joining.
Arsenal appear to have won the youngster on a very affordable deal, Tavares is only 21 so has plenty of time to develop into a valuable asset and he has shown that he can already contribute to the team today.
