Chelsea took a big step towards qualifying for the Champions League semi-finals thanks to a 2-0 quarter-final win against Porto in the first leg.

Thomas Tuchel’s men scored a goal in both halves, with Mason Mount finding the end of the net in the first 45 and Ben Chilwell finishing the game with the second goal after 85 minutes after Porto.

It wasn’t an easy proposition, however, as Porto showered 12 shots on Chelsea’s goal, five of which were on goal.

So which actors stood out?

✔ Reece James: 7.7

That night, much of Chelsea’s game went down on the right and this was largely due to the presence of Reece James, who showed superb athleticism throughout the evening, moving the flank up and down.

He was effective on both offense and defense, sending 14 passes into the final third and sending more crosses into the box than any other player in the match with seven.

Defensively, he won 6/11 duels, 100% of his duels (4/4) and 100% of his air duels (2/2).

✖ Jesus Corona: 5.4

Jesus Corona did not have a good night for Porto and was desperately ineffective in the last third.

He had a shot on goal that went far, but his laconic display of possession was the worst aspect of his game as he gave up possession no fewer than 22 times.

On one special occasion when he lost the ball, Chilwell managed to get in and score. Bad mistake.

It shows how much pressure Chelsea were under at times that the man’s husband was goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

The former Rennes stopper made five great saves on the night to deny Porto and eased the burden on his defense with eleven ball restores.

As always, Tuchel asked his team to play from behind and Mendy was key to that when he made 27/32 passes attempted.
