Report: Manchester Metropolis are eager on Everton left-back Lucas Digne
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is looking to add a left-back to his squad before the January transfer window ends, according to The Telegraph, and his side are great admirers of Everton star Lucas Digne.
However, such a move will depend on City being able to discharge Oleksandr Zinchenko or Benjamin Mendy.
The Frenchman hasn’t been able to consistently impress since moving from AS Monaco to City, and his high wages remain an obstacle to leaving.
Zinchenko has no shortage of suitors and the Ukrainian could leave if the right offer is received.
Landing Digne could prove herculean for Man City as Everton aren’t interested in having one of their best players leave anytime soon.
Indeed, the Goodison Park team are preparing a new contract offer for the France international and City may have to look elsewhere for a left-back.
They previously watched Ajax star Nicolas Tagliafico but it remains to be seen if they will continue to be interested in him.
Ideally, Etihad Stadium wants a full-back who has already proven himself in the top English league and Digne is one of the best in the country since joining Everton from Barcelona in the summer of 2018.
He is currently recovering from an ankle surgery and talks are ongoing with the Toffees about improved conditions.
With only two and a half years left on his current contract, the £ 18million signature must be given a contract extension with City Circling.
The 27-year-old has made four assists in eight league games this season after finishing his first two seasons with four goals and eleven assists in 70 league games.
Digne failed at Barcelona but the former Paris Saint-Germain left-back has what it takes to play for a top team again and the prospect of joining Guardiola in City could be very tempting.
