Report: Tottenham Hotspur eager on Stuttgart ahead and Leeds United goal Nicolas Gonzalez
Tottenham Hotspur recently held talks to sign Stuttgart winger Nicolas Gonzalez ahead of the summer transfer window, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein. However, all talks are currently at a preliminary stage.
Juventus are keen on the Argentine too, while Leeds United was one of the teams connected to him during the transfer window last summer.
Gonzalez helped Stuttgart get promoted to Bundesliga 2 last season with 14 goals and three assists in 27 games. His impressive form has continued in the top German league with five goals and two assists in 10 league games.
Without a release clause in its new deal, Stuttgart would charge a fee on the order of £ 27 million, and that shouldn’t be a problem for Spurs and Co.
Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho is keen to improve his depth of attack at the end of the season and a move for Gonzalez could be in sight.
The Portuguese expects a calm transfer window this month after expressing satisfaction with the depth of his current squad. However, movements inside and outside the club are expected in the summer.
Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa wanted to sign Gonzalez to bolster his chances last summer, but one move didn’t work out.
Patrick Bamford has impressed so far this season, scoring 10 goals in 17 EPL games, but the 27-year-old could use good coverage and competition going forward.
The versatile Gonzalez plays across the board and has continued to attract European bigwigs because of his enormous potential and finishing skills.
He is only 22 years old and will only get better in the future. A move to the Premier League could take place next summer.
Whether that goes to Tottenham or Leeds remains to be seen.
