Report: West Ham eager to signal Brandon Williams on mortgage

West Ham United are interested in loaning Manchester United full-back Brandon Williams on loan in the January transfer window, The Sun reports.

Williams made a strong impression last season at Old Trafford, where he played 36 games, but he has fought for regular games in 2020-21.

The versatile full-back has dropped the pecking order of the club, which has only played six games in all competitions so far.

Luke Shaw nailed down the left back position with a longer side run, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signed Alex Telles as another reliable option this summer.

United rate the youngster highly and Solskjaer praised him as “top class” after his impressive performance in the Europa League clash against AZ Alkmaar last year.

While Williams tries to move elsewhere to get regular games, the Red Devils have delayed the final decision.

Newcastle United was heavily linked with a move for the 20-year-old. Jamal Lewis struggled to settle in Tyneside after moving £ 15million from Norwich City that summer.

It appears, however, that West Ham has also joined the race for his signature.

West Ham will have to sign a left-back this month.

The Hammers lost Arthur Masuaku to injury and while Aaron Cresswell has impressed this season, Moyes still needs a replacement option.

The Hammers reportedly made a request to sign Emerson Palmieri, but Chelsea are not looking to sell the Italian international this month.

Williams has been a marginal figure at Old Trafford this season and a move from the loan club will be beneficial to him.
