Seaman urges Arsenal to signal three gamers this switch window

Former goalkeeper David Seaman has asked Arsenal to sign three players this summer transfer window.

The Gunners finished eighth in the Premier League, six points off the top four and 25 points behind champions Manchester City, in a season that could have cost Mikel Arteta his job.

However, he is still the club’s boss and hopes the board of directors will give him sufficient support in this transfer window to add the players who will help the club get back into the Champions League.

Seaman “regrets” Arteta and insists the Spaniard needs to improve the “backbone” of his squad in the Emirates by signing a “good defender and midfielder” and a “more consistent” striker.

“When you look at last season, finishing eight is very disappointing,” Seaman told MailSport. “It’s something that needs to be changed.

“I’m a little sorry for Arteta because he doesn’t have his own team or squad yet. He inherited players from previous managers. But he has to coach his fellow human beings to get the best out of them.

“We saw by winning the FA Cup and then the Community Shield that I would name these bonuses because this season wasn’t very good either. Consistency is the problem.

“All of a sudden we beat Liverpool and Chelsea, then we lost to lower teams. That is his biggest problem.

“Do we need players? Yes, we’re doing that. I still feel that the team’s spine isn’t strong enough. You need a good defender and midfielder. We need a more consistent attacking player.

‘In the [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang, we have a quality player. Last season he wasn’t consistent enough with all the different problems he had. But you know the quality it is, so don’t really change that.

‘[Thomas] Partey did well in midfield and I like what I see in him. I want to see him have a more consistent season and hopefully that will happen next year. ‘
