Southampton signal Takumi Minamino on mortgage from Liverpool
It is usually hard to get excited about a player on loan but there will be plenty of Liverpool fans looking forward to seeing Takumi Minamino play for Southampton on a regular basis in the second half of the season.
Reports seemed to come out of nowhere late in the transfer window about a possible loan exchange, and it has now been confirmed that the Japanese star will be traveling to St. Mary’s by the summer:
Is Takumi Minamino a #SaintsFC player until the end of the season?
No purchase option
The loan fee could rise to £ 500,000
The saints will meet his wages
It will be interesting to see if he can add the creative spark to the Saints’ attack. @ TheAthleticUK https://t.co/lg1dgVXMKz

He was in an odd situation at Anfield because he had played well and seemed to improve as he gained more experience in the league, but his playing time was suddenly cut short and he was left out in the cold for a couple of weeks.
The fact that there is no option to buy shows that Liverpool still value him and see him as part of their future, but that loan spell could turn him off.
We’re used to talented players going to Southampton and impressing before moving to Liverpool. Maybe Minamino is doing this in a slightly different order, but some formidable spell should increase his chances of playing regularly for the next season.
