Steven Gerrard tipped for shock Premier League job
Despite the recently won SPL title, Rangers manager and former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has already been advised to deviate from Scottish football.
After Gerrard retired from professional football in 2017, he decided, like several former professionals, to try his hand at management – and what a decision it turned out to be.
After taking the reins at Rangers in 2018, Gerrard helped the Scottish team achieve their 55th league title and brought in several key European performances.
Given the really remarkable start as a manager, Gerrard has already been given a tip for a big move to the Premier League.
Former Aston Villa striker Frank McAvennie speaks exclusively to Football Insider and believes the former Liverpool captain turned tactician should replace Villan’s gaffer Dean Smith.
When asked if he thought Gerrard would be interested in taking over Villa, McAvennie said, “Oh god, yes.
“People don’t understand, Rangers are a big club and of course Celtic is a huge club.
“But if he wants to go to the Premier League, Aston Villa is a huge club.
“I think he will want Liverpool, which I can’t see for a couple of years because Klopp won’t leave, but if they don’t start winning he could leave earlier.
“He’s got a good management team around and he’s got a little to do with him, Stevie Gerrard.
“He has time because he has such a reputation in the game and what he does next is up to him.”

Smith’s current contract with Villa expires in 2023. Even if the club hierarchy wanted to include Gerrard, it will cost fair compensation to relieve the Englishman of his duties.
