‘Very unfavorable’ – Ian Wright is not completely happy about this
With the derby in north London this weekend for Arsenal, all eyes will be on how much engagement the Gunners players have against their local rivals.
Despite winning all of their Europa League games, Arsenal consistently fell short in the 2020/21 national competition.
So much so that they are in 14th place with only 10 goals scored in their 10 games.
Mikel Arteta clearly needs to find a formula for success, and the sooner the better. However, former player Ian Wright has found that one player in particular has really let him down.
“I think Xhaka has just returned to typing. It’s very negative. That’s why we get this value of 58 passes per shot. We’re going by [too much]”He said on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, quoted by the Daily Mirror.
“They have midfielders who are unwilling to take the chance to put it there and they want to get those stats where they pass it sideways and they have a 99% pass accuracy by having it five yards from the target pass on page.
“If you don’t take chances, you won’t get anywhere.
“I think one of the statistics the other day was the biggest interaction between two Arsenal players. Xhaka was back with Gabriel – it almost brought me to tears!”
Xhaka would do well to listen to Wright.
